Evangelical Churches Need To Reduce Abortions Among Their Own?

The news that Evangelicals in America are seeking to reduce the number of abortions had by women in their churches is troubling but not surprising. From the Christian Post:
"The nation’s largest evangelical body on Thursday launched a new abortion reduction initiative in which discussion about sex is a major focus.

Sexual activity outside of marriage is occurring at a significant level among young evangelicals, said the National Association of Evangelicals. And young unmarried evangelicals are among those who are having abortions.

“There are a significant number of abortions taking place within the evangelical community but we don’t really talk about that,” said Galen Carey, director of government affairs at the NAE, to The Christian Post. “So we want to stimulate a conversation.”

“We believe there is a close connection to a respect to sex and a respect for life,” he added.

The NAE, which represents 40 denominations and 30 million U.S. evangelicals, released a “Theology of Sex” booklet earlier this week that it hopes will inspire discussion about sex within the church. The 24-page booklet lists four reasons for sex: “one-flesh union” to consummate marriage, procreation, expression of love to one’s spouse, and enjoyment and pleasure..."
I wonder how intentional the phrase "And young unmarried evangelicals are among those who are having abortions" was? This phrase rightfully does not single out women because men share just as much responsibility in the murder of the child as women do. For me, this has become a problem because of the idols that have been raised in our churches, by the priesthood belonging to Jesus Christ.

The fruit of idolatry has not changed since Old Testament times, only the names by which the idols are called has. In biblical times the idols had specific names or references like Moloch, Baal, and Asherah. They lead God's people into sins like the worship of nature, sexual immorality and the murder of children. These false gods, these idols are now manifested in the false and idolatrous religion of Liberalism. Staying focused on this issue at hand, abortion is a modern variant of child sacrifice. Liberalism justifies the murder of unborn for any reason and this means even tolerating infanticide in order to preserve such a view.

This is what the fruit of idolatry looks like as described in the Bible:

"Manasseh was twelve years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem fifty-five years. His mother's name was Hephzibah. He did evil in the eyes of the LORD, following the detestable practices of the nations the LORD had driven out before the Israelites. He rebuilt the high places his father Hezekiah had destroyed; he also erected altars to Baal and made an Asherah pole, as Ahab king of Israel had done. He bowed down to all the starry hosts and worshiped them. He built altars in the temple of the LORD, of which the LORD had said, "In Jerusalem I will put my Name." In both courts of the temple of the LORD, he built altars to all the starry hosts."

"He sacrificed his own son in the fire, practiced sorcery and divination, and consulted mediums and spiritists. He did much evil in the eyes of the LORD, provoking him to anger.

He took the carved Asherah pole he had made and put it in the temple, of which the LORD had said to David and to his son Solomon, "In this temple and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, I will put my Name forever. I will not again make the feet of the Israelites wander from the land I gave their forefathers, if only they will be careful to do everything I commanded them and will keep the whole Law that my servant Moses gave them." But the people did not listen. Manasseh led them astray, so that they did more evil than the nations the LORD had destroyed before the Israelites. The LORD said through his servants the prophets: Manasseh king of Judah has committed these detestable sins. He has done more evil than the Amorites who preceded him and has led Judah into sin with his idols." 2 Kings 21:1-11

This is what is happening in our churches when Liberalism is not confronted. Christian men and women engage in sexually immoral acts and then kill their child in order to cover up their sin, they compound one sin with another. What is happening in our churches when Christians need to be reminded that God knows the unborn child, cares for him or her, and even Jesus Christ had a special place for the infant and child?

"Before I formed you in the womb I knew you;
Before you were born I sanctified you..." Jeremiah 1:5

"My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place.
When I was woven together in the depths of the earth,

your eyes saw my unformed body.
All the days ordained for me
were written in your book
before one of them came to be.

How precious to me are your thoughts, O God!
How vast is the sum of them!" Psalm 139:15-17

"Then they also brought infants to Him that He might touch them; but when the disciples saw it, they rebuked them. But Jesus called them to Him and said, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God. Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it.” Luke 18:15-17

Part of the problem is the tolerance of these idols in our midst by other Christians and how much relativism is influencing church leaders on this. How can we claim to be against abortion and yet support pro-abortion absolutists? To put it in biblical terms: How can we claim to be against idolatry and yet support those who raise, promote, and mandate idols be worshiped in our midst? How can we claim to be against idolatry when we fail to confront the evil fruit idolatry cannot but produce?

Christians are to be a royal priesthood, a holy nation, set apart by our values.

"But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light." 1 Peter 2:9

This means it is time to start boldly calling an idol by it's name and the necessary evil fruit that flows from it.
